Deer Hunting

Last Friday Nick and I went to Lewiston for deer hunting. Friday night we checked out our deer stands looked around the woods a little. After we got back to town we went to the bowling alley for a fish fry. MMM good. Nick ate 2 salads. Silly boy. After eating we bowled a little. Nick got a 59 and I got a 150. Next game Nick got a 109. Not bad for a 9 year old on his birthday.
Saturday morning came early. We were in the woods before light. That was a first eh Dad. Pretty quiet morning till about 10 when I heard something behind me. Sure enough it was a deer. BIG doe with a fawn following it. It came into the open and I blasted it. Down it went. The fawn ran off and stopped just out of range. I waited 10 minutes and went to check my kill. Doe? It was a button buck. Bummer, the other deer must have been way small cuz this looked like a doe and its baby. Oh well at least we got something.
Dad had shots at 4 deer, three different times... Scared 'em good. Gun sight must be off.
Sunday after church we picked up the deer from the butcher who skinned and quartered it. Then I boned it out right away and put it in the cooler on ice.
We watched the Packers game and headed home about 5PM.
About an hour from home we got on the 4 lane past Waseca and I just got up to 70 mph. There is a vehicle on the side of the road with his flashers on. I looked back at the road and there is a huge buck with a trophy rack laying right in the middle of the road right in front of me. Sheer Panic! I did not even have time to do anything except squeeze the wheel. We went right over the top of it. I think the poor little Metro got air. LOUD clunks. We landed partly sideways going 70 per. FEAR FEAR FEAR. I thought we were going to roll. An angel must have straightened the car, because I was able to get it back on the road. I stoped shortly down the road. Nick was pretty upset too. The car looked alright. We made it home an hour or so later. I drove like a granny on Sunday the rest of the way home. Everyone got a big hug when we got home, and we all said thanks in our prayers that night. Lexi said she was glad I didn't die:-)
I had the car checked on Tuesday and the was nothing wrong. I thought a tie rod or shocks or allignment was damaged but nothing. Whew. After telling people at work the story it hit me. I bet the deer was from the car pulled over on the side of the road. It was a huge buck with a great rack, lying right in the middle of the highway and there was no splat on the road. It had to have fallen off the car or truck and they were stopping to pick it back up. I am sure I Broke the rack and tenderized the meat for him. He is just lucky we did not roll the car and die. Jesus love me this I know.
